Year 6

 Grade 6 is a special year for our students. Our enthusiastic team works together to provide an engaging and supportive learning environment whilst building positive relationships with our students. The Grade 6 classes are currently located in partially open plan classrooms in our new building. This allows great flexibility in teaching approaches, co-operative group tasks and classroom setup.

Our students utilise a range of ICT tools to support and extend their learning in numeracy, literacy and integrated studies (incorporating science and humanities topics). The school's involvement in the Joint Environmental Mission program (JEM) and China exchange programs offer additional opportunities for our students' growth. Special events for our Grade 6 students include our Phillip Island Adventure camp which fosters social skills and teamwork, Leadership opportunities, Interschool Sport, and Prep Buddies program. A highlight of the year is the Glendal Film Festival, where students work together to write, perform, film and edit their own short films. This learning unit culminates in the Glogie (Glendal logie) Awards, and evening screenings of the films at Glen Waverley Secondary College.

Preparation for secondary school is important throughout the year, and students are encouraged to develop their independence, and responsibility for their learning. Daily organisation, weekly homework and diary use are integral to this process. In addition, students are grouped across classes for some subjects (such as Maths), which requires them to be organised and to work with teachers other than their class teacher. During Term 4, the transition process includes visits to various secondary schools, incursions and learning skills such as timetabling and navigating the secondary environment. Students, their families and teachers celebrate their primary years of schooling with our Graduation ceremony at the end of the school year.
