2024 SEMESTER ONE CURRICULUM
Foundation
Foundation students participated in a range of physical activities both individually and with their peers. They focused on a variety of fundamental motor skills such as throwing, catching, running, jumping, balancing and skipping. Students started to develop a movement vocabulary, and learned simple rules and procedures for safe movement, equipment use and following instructions.
Year 1
Year 1 students used different parts of their body to explore movement. They completed a small gameplay module, learning a variety of skills including developing strategies for success. Students explained the importance of rules and fair play, and demonstrated this through sharing equipment and turn-taking. They developed their fundamental motor skills through running, hopping, skipping, jumping, kicking, throwing and catching. Students worked individually, with a partner and in small groups, with and without equipment, considering and revising the need for safety, and practising appropriate skills and procedures.
Year 2

Year 3 students developed competitive strategies and problem-solving within the rules of a game. They completed activities focused on fundamental movement skills needed for effective participation in many sports. Students consolidated team-building skills through activities involving communication, relying on teamwork and participation for success. They continued learning lessons of fair play and sharing a collective goal while building their self-esteem and confidence in teams and small group games. Students progressed skills and strategies for court sports including tennis, badminton and a modified tennis game called pickleball. They participated in a series of basketball clinics, which included shooting, passing and other court-specific skills.

Year 6
Year 6 students engaged in athletics training, including learning rules, techniques and safety standards required to compete in athletics events such as discus, shot put, long jump, triple jump and high jump. This unit of work culminated in a school athletics day. Students participated in interschool sport, providing an opportunity for competition against schools from the local area. Teamwork, good sportsmanship and respect for opposition and umpires were demonstrated by the cohort. Students developed fundamental movement skills needed for effective participation in tennis. They participated in a series of basketball clinics, which included shooting, passing and other court-specific skills.
